Global walkthrough — start here

Follow one Global Field Operations project through four parts: capture → configure → deliver → exchange. Use the phone views as the main instructions and open the tablet examples when helpful. The locations span New York, London and Tokyo; all inspection findings, routes and zones are fictional training data.

Your four-part learning path

PartWhat you will doReady to move on when…
1. CaptureExplore the prepared project, save NY-013 with Quick Capture, and export the sites. You can reopen NY-013 and check its saved values.
2. ConfigureUse night mode and satellite imagery; review styles, form rules, city choices and location autofill. You have tested and discarded the drawing and form drafts.
3. DeliverSave NY-014 offline, check delivery, choose an export scope and review handover options. You can distinguish a local save from confirmed delivery and check the export count.
4. ExchangeTurn Quick Capture off, save LDN-013 through Enter Data, then use CAD Manager and Shp Manager. You have checked the imported copies in the separate Global Exchange Lab.

These are the four earlier “batches,” now presented as one course. Each part links back here and forward to the next lesson.

Before you begin

Use a training project with access to the features required by each part; see Access & requirements. Part 1 explains the prepared layers and links the reference dataset. The downloads are examples, not one-click project installers.

Following the existing demo? NY-013, NY-014 and LDN-013 are already saved. Reopen them to review the results. If you practise a new save, use a unique identifier and expect your counts to increase. Do not add duplicate inspections simply to match an earlier screenshot.

Starting from scratch? Your first field project is a separate, two-record setup exercise. Complete it first if you need to learn project and form creation, then return here for the global example.

Sample counts

A site is one point in Inspection sites. A project feature can be a site, route or zone. The global project keeps 6 maintenance routes + 6 service zones throughout these lessons, so its total is always site count + 12.

StageWhat changesSitesProject total
Prepared sample12 sites in each of three cities3648
After Part 1Save NY-013 once3749
After Part 2Discard both practice drafts; no save3749
After Part 3Save a new NY-014 once3850
After Part 4Save LDN-013 once3951

The NY-014 draft in Part 2 tests Poor condition and is discarded. Part 3 creates the saved NY-014 with Fair condition at its own demonstration coordinate. These are different steps, not two saved copies.

Why screenshots show different totals

Original capture screens and downloads preserve the counts at that lesson's stage: Part 1 exports 37 sites; Part 3 exports 38 sites or 50 project features. Later refreshed tablet views and some phone tables show the completed demo: 39 sites / 51 features. Changing the theme, device layout or image resolution does not change the data. The screenshot refresh added no records.

When repeating an export on the completed demo, expect 39 sites or 51 project features, depending on your selected scope. Compare an original download with its lesson's count, and a new export with the current selected dataset.

Keep projects and AI results separate

Number you seeWhat it counts
51 in Global Field Operations39 sites + 6 routes + 6 zones after Part 4
45 in Global Exchange Lab39 imported SHP points + 6 imported CAD routes; separate local copies, excluded from the global total
5 in Slope quality practice (simulated)One section line + four station points after Add; a separate local field-tool exercise
2 in Field practiceRecords in the separate beginner exercise
3 groups · 39 sites analysed in Geova AIThree condition categories summarising the 39 sites: Good 13, Fair 13 and Poor 13
13 sites in a filtered AI answerOnly the sites whose Condition is Poor

An AI summary does not add sites to the project. Before comparing numbers, check the project, layer or export scope, and lesson stage.

After the four parts

Return to Projects and activate Global Field Operations after the local exchange exercise. Then optionally follow Geova AI review and voice readiness, or try the illustrated project questions. Both use the completed 39-site / 51-feature demo. Voice entry has additional readiness requirements described in its guide.

For a separate field-tool exercise, follow Record a slope profile. Its phone and tablet examples use simulated inputs in a local practice project, keeping the global counts unchanged.
