Find the right screen and tool

Use each screen for a clear part of the work: prepare the project, collect records, review them, and deliver the result. A tool's practical value comes from the result it helps you produce.

Choose by the result you need

Screen or panelWhat you doUseful result
Projects / DashboardCreate or activate a project, inspect storage and sync, and query a selected layerStart in the right project and distinguish local work from hosted collaboration
LayersDefine geometry types, choose styles and labels, manage visibility, and describe fields in DictionaryMake the map easier to interpret and its data easier to understand
Data Forms / FormsConfigure fields, required answers, order, visibility, controlled choices, and Smart LogicGive collectors a shorter, consistent entry form
MapDraw or position features, review attributes, edit geometry, measure, and inspect the timelineConnect field observations to a reviewed location
Data & SyncReview collected records, import/export, transfer nearby, and work with related tables where enabledCheck the data and hand it over through the appropriate route
Geova AI ChatAsk a scoped question, inspect evidence, and review proposed actions; open Planner where enabledTurn a question into a result you can check before acting
TeamReview activity and workspace members; invite or manage people when authorizedAssign access and see who contributed work in the selected period
Settings / AccountFind device tools and preferences, manage account/device options, and switch workspacePrepare the supplied device and enter the intended workspace

Names such as Projects and Data Forms can appear in screen headers while the guide uses Dashboard and Forms. Screen availability and actions depend on the account, workspace, role, and enabled features.

Map shortcuts worth learning

NeedTool and benefit
Keep more map area visibleUse radial drawing controls hides the drawing toolbar and opens relevant actions at a long-press/right-click
Place a vertex without covering itPrecision Crosshair / Add Point lets you move the map under a fixed target
Connect to an existing edgeSnap to Features helps place draft vertices on nearby visible geometry
Select points occupying the same locationSpiderfy spreads supported cluster markers for selection without changing their stored coordinates
Check a distance or enclosed areaMeasure gives a temporary map measurement without adding a collected feature
Mark something to revisit on this deviceSketch Tools adds local project notes and annotations
Review records from a particular periodMap timeline uses a chosen date field and reports excluded missing/invalid dates
Correct a point's positionGeometry editing supports selecting the point and tapping its new location, with a reviewed finish or discard

Start with Contextual drawing and precision controls, then use the Map reference for tracking, editing, sketches, and the timeline.

Useful controls on the other screens

Keep these decisions separate

  • Active versus visible layer: the active layer receives new collection. A visible layer is displayed on the map; showing it does not make it the collection target.
  • Style versus attributes: classification and labels change presentation. Use the feature form to correct the data behind them.
  • Form visibility versus deletion: hide an unneeded field to simplify entry; deletion changes the schema. Review either change before field deployment.
  • Asset versus visit: one mapped asset can have multiple related inspection records. A photo or file supports a record; it is not another visit.
  • Save versus sync: saving on a device can precede delivery to Geova Cloud. Check pending work before handover.
  • Measurement/sketch versus feature: temporary measurements and local sketches serve different purposes from records collected through a layer's form.

A short screen-to-screen practice

  1. In Projects, activate a practice project and check its storage badge.
  2. In Layers, create or select the collection layer. Confirm its geometry, label, and visible style.
  3. In Forms, put the identifier first, configure choices and required answers, and wait for the saved status.
  4. In Map, collect one feature using direct drawing, Precision, or a reviewed phone location.
  5. In Data & Sync, find the same record and check its attributes and evidence.
  6. If hosted, inspect sync status. If handing over a file, verify the required export contents.

For a connected exercise with actual application screenshots, use Your first field project. For daily collection in an already prepared project, use the field quick-start. For repeat visits, use Record repeated inspections. For assisted project setup, use Project Planner.
