Map PDF Export

Purpose: Turn a prepared map into a readable report.

Before you start: Open the intended project and Map, with PDF export access.

Expected result: A checked PDF with the right map, records, fields and page layout.

Choose a simple map for a briefing, a map with a table for a handover, or individual feature sheets for closer review. Preview lets you check the pages before saving or sharing.

1. Opening the Export Dialog

1. Open Map and move to the area you want to report.
2. Show the relevant layers and check any active filters. Wait for the map to load.
3. Open Print/PDF using the control available in your navigation layout.
4. In Export Map PDF, choose the document layout and data scope below.

2. Configuration Options

Document layout

Choice	Use it for
Map + summary	A map followed by its scope, notes and optional legend. With the current-view scope and Engineering Drawing off, it is a visual summary: grouped points can remain visible, but individual records and exact record counts are not exported.
Map + data table	A map plus selected attribute columns. Numbered map references connect the features to table rows.
Feature sheets	A separate report for each chosen feature, with its map, attributes and coordinate information. Select up to 10 features.

Data scope

All three scope options are limited to the current view. A feature crossing the view boundary can qualify; its stored geometry is not clipped to that boundary.

Choice	What to check
Visible features in current view	The visible map records and current filters. The default visual-summary combination includes the displayed map rather than a record table.
Chosen visible layers in current view	Tick the layers you want to include. Hidden layers are not added by this control.
Selected features in current view	Tick the required records in the export dialog. Do not assume an earlier selection elsewhere in the app has selected these checkboxes.

Read the scope message before generating. Loaded records only means other records may exist in the project. A PDF is a report of its stated scope, not a complete project backup. For a whole-project handover, use Project package.

Page Layout

Choose A4 or A3, then Portrait or Landscape. Portrait usually suits a tall phone view; Landscape suits a wide view. The map has its own page and is fitted without cropping or stretching, so some white space is normal. Notes, tables and legends continue on later pages as needed.

Map Title

Enter a descriptive title, up to 80 characters. A blank title becomes Map Export.

Subtitle (Optional)

Add context such as the inspection area or reporting period, up to 100 characters.

Custom Notes (Optional)

Add up to 500 characters, for example: “North District inspections, reviewed 11 October 2026.” Include only information intended for the recipient.

Data fields

For Map + data table and Feature sheets, choose the fields to include and use the up/down buttons to set their order. Check labels and units. Long tables continue across pages, and wide field lists are split into groups of columns.

4. Legend Generation

The legend must be read with the document scope:

• A visual summary shows visible layer styles without exact record or classification counts. A grouped marker is not an exported data row.
• A record-based export counts the features included in that report. Classified layers can show category or range counts and Other / unclassified where applicable.

These counts are not automatically the entire layer or project total. For example, exporting six visible streetlights does not establish that the project contains only six streetlights.

5. PDF Generation

1. Choose Preview. Keep the map still while it is captured.
2. Review every page: extent, source/scope message, record count where included, fields, labels, notes and any basemap warning.
3. Change the options if necessary, then preview again.
4. Choose Generate PDF. On Android, use the save/share sheet to choose the destination; in a browser, save the download.
5. Open the saved PDF and check it before handing it over. Preview alone does not save a file.

Generation captures the map again. If data or the map view changes after preview, check the final file against the updated scope.

What the PDF Contains

The selected layout determines its map, summary, table or feature pages. Optional engineering pages include additional coordinate tables. Page numbers help you check the complete document.

If generation stops or a button is unavailable

Message or situation	Next step

Too many records	Reduce the area, layers or selected records. Record-based reports support up to 1,000 features; feature sheets and engineering drawings support up to 10
Too many pages	Reduce fields or records. The report has an 80-page limit; reduce the scope if the export reports too many pages
Map moved during capture	Keep the map still and preview again
Basemap warning or blank imagery	Check connectivity or downloaded map coverage, then preview again

Cancel before generation if you want to leave the dialog. If you stop an operation after it starts, check whether a file or share sheet was already produced before retrying.

6. Tips for Best Results

• Start with a small, named set of features and only the fields your recipient needs.
• Sync first when the report must reflect the team's delivered data; a PDF can include local edits and is not proof of cloud delivery.
• Review both the map and table. Map labels and report row numbers serve different purposes.
• Keep a map PDF for presentation and use an appropriate data export when the recipient needs editable records.
