Field collector quick-start

Use this when your project, layers, and forms are already prepared. For setup, follow Your first field project.

1. Before leaving

• Open the intended project and check whether it is Local or Hosted.
• Confirm the required layers, forms, reference data, and map area are available on this device.
• Save and reopen one practice record. For hosted work, test sync while connected.
• Use the approved Android application when dependable disconnected startup is required. Follow offline preparation.

2. Choose the destination

In Map, check the active layer before collecting. Visibility controls only show or hide layers.

Use a new feature for a new asset or observation. Use the project's related-record workflow, where enabled, for another visit to an existing asset.

3. Review the location

Direct drawing: long-press empty map space, choose Draw, and place the point or vertices.

Precision: move the map under the crosshair, then select Add Point. If Precision was off, the first Add Point press activates it. A line needs at least two vertices; a polygon needs three, then Finish.

GPS Pin: wait for a usable location, review the temporary pin, and confirm it before entering the record.

4. Complete, save, and reopen

Enter the required answers, choose approved values, and add the requested evidence. Check any auto-filled values.

Save, wait for the result, then reopen the record. Confirm its identifier, location, answers, and attachment. When finished, use Cancel until the map is idle; Precision can take two stages to exit.

Remember: green completion colors describe filled eligible fields. They do not confirm accuracy, good asset condition, or cloud delivery.

5. Confirm the handover

Hosted: open sync status and review pending work. If anything needs attention, keep the saved work and follow sync recovery.

Local: use the agreed export or nearby transfer. Check that the receiving file or device contains the expected records.

Nearby transfer: receipt on the host device and delivery to Geova Cloud are separate checks.

When a step stops

• Control missing or locked: check the active layer, role, and enabled feature with your project manager.
• Required answer missing: complete the visible requirement and review conditional fields.
• No spatial auto-fill value: enter the verified value manually when the form allows it.
• Save or sync uncertain: read the status before creating another copy.
• Need to correct a record: reopen it and use the authorized edit action.

Shift complete: records reopened and checked; delivery confirmed or pending items clearly identified for follow-up.
